West Ham Sea Cadets -
HMS RALEIGH 2008

From the 19th - 24th October cadets from West Ham Unit, joined by cadets from Newham, City of London and Southwark Units travelled down to Plymouth to spend a fun filled week doing activities on the Royal Naval Training base - HMS Raleigh. This is where anyone who joins the Royal Navy as a rating will complete the first phase of their Naval Training.

Day One
The cadets started their week with a full dress inspection by Lt Cdr Evans RN MBE, who was very impressed with the standard of dress from the cadets. This was then followed by a group photo (below)

This was followed by the Assault course....

...after a brief explanation of all the obsticals, it was the cadets turn....

Day Two

Day two consisted of Harbour training, which unfortuantly had to be cancelled due to the boat we were going to be using had a small fire on board and was taken out of action.

However during the afternoon we had a lovely excursion to the sea-side town of Looe, where the cadets (and staff!) could relax and unwind.

Day Three
Day three started with a little dip in the pool, for the cadets to experience how they would get into a life raft...

The second part of the day we had a trip to Mount Edgcumbe Park, where the cadets could let off some steam.

The Evening came to a close with Lt Weston presenting Lt Cdr Evans MBE with a plaque to show our appreciation for being such a wonderful host.

Congratulations to Able Cadet Jessica Gregson for winning the Cadet of the week, recieving a plaque to commemorate her trip to HMS Raleigh.

Congratulations also to Cadet Stevie Killagallon of City of London Unit who came a close runner up winning a GIGANTIC bar of chocolate....but with the many cadets, needless to say it didn't last very long!!

Day Five

Day five was hometime and after a jam packed week, the minibus home was very, very quiet...
